Random Friday the 13th links, innit

Despite the disclaimer, what are the real intentions of posting a list like this? To raise awareness? Anyone who would come across this list has probably changed their password(s) already.

The next link is only going to be interesting for those interested in IBM/Lotus goings on, and relates to a certain analysis published by a certain group - I started to compile a list of links relating to the "Raddy Catty" carry on, until I came across this entry in Volkers wiki, which nicely summarises what the hell happened with links to relevant postings. Have a read, it's worth it. I'll definately be viewing any of their future reports in a slightly different light.

Lian-Li do some very nice cases. Their new case seems to be a follow up on the Silent 6070 Case, viewable here on overclockers.co.nz, it's listed down the bottom - the Lian Li PC-V1100A "Silent" Super Tower Aluminium Case. From reports and reviews, the 6070 definately reduced noise, but at a cost of raising the temperature a few degrees - well the V1100A kills noise, and reduces temperature. One reviewer was using 12 (!!!) fans in his previous rig, and when he switched to the Lian-Li (using only the 2 120mm fans that come with the case) he reported his ambient temperature dropped to being 5 degrees lower. Not bad. At the moment nowhere local to me stocks these, but when they do, it's time for another day of ripping my PC to bits and putting it back together (hey Sonic, wanna help again? :D).

Finally a very stylist Winamp skin, sent to me by Sonic. The iPlay skin is a very nice looking Modern (so 5.x Winamp only) Skin, iSyled in that iTypical iMac iLook. It's very nice, but very graphical, and it definately taxes your machine a bit. If you install this skin, make sure to do the following:

  • Click on the apple to have the scrolling drawer extend
  • Right click, then select configure to turn on the notifier, and turn on drawer animation.
  • Turn on Alpha Blending (this is a must) - Preferences/Skins/Modern Skins/Enable Desktop Blending

A screenshot is below. The larger screen is the main Winamp window, the smaller one is the popup 'notifier' which appears down the bottom right of your screen when you change tracks, or stop/start/pause playback. Also worth noting, is that this also Skins both the Playlist and Media Library windows.
