Gorrillaz: an experiment in branding

Over the past few weeks I've seen the some new Gorillaz video, and various ads for the album playing at the gym. Of course, I can't hear anything as I always have my iPod on, but that's fine by me because I heard bits of the old album and I know for a fact that it's not my thing. But yet, after watching that video enough, I feel kind of compelled to listen to the music. The video just has something about it, and I'm wondering how intentional that is. There's something about it which creates some sort of an aura about it - maybe it's something I only feel because I've seen the video so many times and yet never heard a single note of the songs?

It could just be that I happen to like the artistic style of the comic - but I'm curious to know if this is something that anyone else identifies with, as it's an interesting way to lodge your product in the minds of consumers that you might not reach otherwise.
