Welcome to Merauderweb

SQL Server/Express 2005

I'm currently reinstalling my development environment at home, in order to do some work with the 2.0 framework and Visual Studio 2005. Our main project at work right now is targetted for the 1.1 framework, and we're using Visual Studio 2003, pretty much because it would have taken too much trouble to convince the client that 2.0 was worth pursuing, so unfortunately this is the only way to get some active exposure to 2005 other than what I saw at this years Microsoft Connect event.

Anyhow, I have the 2.8gb ISO for SQL Server 2005 here, but decided to skip that and install SQL Express (which comes with VS 2005) instead. That all worked fine, but hang on, no management tools. So I mounted the ISO for the full DVD and tried to install them from there. Nope, no dice.

It seems I forgot that the management tools aren't in their fully released yet, and because of that Microsoft didn't include them on any of the release discs. However, you can download the CTP version from the website (30mb appx): Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express - Community Technology Preview (CTP) November 2005
