Guild Wars: Factions

OGaming - Guild Wars: Factions info. The stuff on the Official Guild Wars homepage isn't too clear about what Factions exactly is. It sounds like a once off event, but it's also adding a lot of things into the game.

Players can visit this new area of the world to to try out a brand new arena, to visit the new combat training zones, or to experience the PvP explorable areas. Join us to get an early look at how PvP will evolve with the coming of Guild Wars: Factions!

I don't know 100% what they mean by this, but "PvP explorable areas" sounds very cool - it sounds like they've made a combat area similar to the towns, ie, non instanced (although I realise the towns are instanced, but what I mean is areas not limited to 2 teams of 4 players or such) open PvP areas for mass battles. I haven't played Guild Wars in a while, but this has definately got me interested again.

New Class: Assassin New Class: Ritualist New skills for all professions!

The new classes sound fun. Assasin is pretty obvious, while Ritualist is a jack of all trades type class with some pet support skills. It has been described as "A versatile character, although one that requires a lot of micromanagement" which suits me well, because my micro is like totally uber. It sounds like they're aimed to support other players pets, or to work well as a Ranger/Spiritualist - no mention if it'd work well in combo with a necromancer or not. Speaking of necromancers..

But don't worry, our old buddies the Monk, Warrior, Elementalist, Ranger, Mesmer, and Necromancer won't be left out in the cold. They will all be given neat, new skills. Especially the Necromancer who will acquire the ability to animate our friends the Flesh Golem, who will, upon death, leave another corpse for another corpse spell.

They've finally addressed the biggest issue I had with Necromancers. I played a minion necro in D2, and hoped to play my Guild Wars necro the same way, however it just didn't fly - no matter how hard I tried with spells such as "Blood of the Master", I simply couldn't keep my pets healed, so I'd always have my army dying out on me. This change should make life a lot better for a lot of people who wanted to play their necros in similar ways.

The rest of the list:

>New Region: Cantha >Allowance for players to change their second profession to Assassin or Ritualist >New armor and weapons! >New monsters! >Faction Wars! >New maps! >New PvP continent: Battle Isles >New PvP areas and methods! >New story missions! >Guild Hall enhancements! >New Guild Halls!

Sounds good. I'm curious to see about the new regions, I really hope they're doing what I think they are. This Gamespy interview is worth a read, for a bit more info, otherwise if you're an existing player there's apparently a preview event to demo some of the content going on this weekend (Jan 20th).
