Sony Ericcson K750i

I grabbed myself a new phone on Friday, a Sony Ericcson K750i. It's too early for a full review yet. I'm still getting used to it, and after 6-7 years of using Nokias I'm finding the texting a bit of an adjustment to make, but I'll get used to it. Interestingly enough, one of the main reasons I got this phone was the camera. The K750i comes with a 2 megapixel camera which has a lot of the features of a "regular" camera - it does panoramic shots, burst shots, has varying exposure levels, a night mode, a light, a self timer and many of the other features you'd expect of a proper camera (as well as an add-on option accessory to add a flash).

A couple of years back when I bought my Nokia 6230i, I remember saying to someone "It's a great phone, but I wish it didn't have a camera - I'll never use that". Well, I was wrong. The 6320i has a pretty mediocre camera, and took 640x480 pictures of pretty low quality, but nonetheless I used it a hell of a lot. Mostly I think that's because I always had it with me, even if I wasn't expecing to want to take pictures. Even if I had a tiny slimline camera, I stil think I'd opt to leave it at home a lot of the time, whereas I'll always have my phone with me. Granted these aren't going to be high quality photos, but they'll be enough to remind me of the moment or to stick up here on the web.

Like I said, too early for a full review - but, I've added the 1gb memory stick duo pro, which should be good for adding MP3s. It's weird that my phone now has more storage than my iPod Shuffle (the phone has about 40mb onboard, which combines with the 1gb duo to slightly top my Shuffle!). I've had a quick test listen with the supplied headphones on the handsfree kit, and the sound quality is pretty impressive and it will sound even better when using the Stereo portable handsfree HPM-70 kit which lets you attach any headphones (I wish someone would include a 3.5mm stereo connector by default, for those of us who are picky about our headphones). It's nice having a phone which recommends that you charge it whenever, and not to run it down completely before recharging - that combines nicely with the fact that it recharges when it's attached to the USB cable or a desk stand.

(And as stupid as they are, animated gif backdrops are kind of cool)
