Surprised? No, neither am I. My reasons might be different to yours (getting in something of an altercation with a driver when he ran over someones foot, which ended up in him driving off at speed only to stop 50m down the road and get out of the taxi and 'talk tough' to me, while having one foot in the cab at all times ready to run off), but no doubt if you've spent any time in Auckland you've probably been ripped off by these guys at some point.
