Well, we knew it was coming..

Not today - the Notes/Domino beta build 2 has been delayed, and won't make the February release that they'd previously talked about. We all knew this was coming, this is just the official announcement. The Notes/Domino 8 beta 2 build will not be posted today. Internal process-wise, today is a big day as we will be making a go-no go call on the code itself, along with several other important readiness factors. After that meeting, we should have a solid date for when the public beta will be available. Though things could change, I expect it won't be more than a...

I Web 2.0'ed it!

Don't worry, it's only temporary. I feel all dirty inside. Although you may wonder where the missing element is, and the answer is that it's right here:

SOE Announces Online Stargate TCG

SOE Stargate Trading Card Game, which is you abbreviate it would be SOE SG-1 TCG I suppose. Coming in April, it sort of hints that they might have rights to the MMO as well. Which is a shame, as it means it'll get rushed out the door early and incomplete. The Stargate TCG is an interesting acquisition though, as they recently purchased Star Chamber as well. I wonder if those 2 games are seen to be complimentary or not. Who can tell!

For those waiting on the public beta of Notes 8

It's sounding like it might not appear in February. Of course it still might. Who can tell. I'd heard rumors that some people were expecting it this week, but now it's sounding like it's a week or two off. Technorati tags: Lotus, Notes, notes8beta

A celebration of chaos

Merauderweb has always been a celebration of chaos in terms of what gets posted here. It's been a bit light on informative articles at times, but hey, that's not really it's purpose. Looking back on the front page of posts, I realise that I really do cover a nice chaotic mix of subjects. If I was bored and browsing at work, then I'd be pretty sure to find something of interest here to brighten up my day.Technorati tags: Merauderweb

Commandline tip of the day

Sometimes my VPN connection loses it's tasktray icon. This is no big deal really, except when I want to disconnect. Sure, it'll timeout by itself, but there are some services which are faster without the VPN (yeah the routing isn't quite right) so it can be a real pain. I've yet to work out where the tasktray icon goes, but until that gets fixed I googled and found that you can connect and disconnect using rasdial: USAGE:         rasdial entryname [username [password|*]] [/DOMAIN:domain]                 [/PHONE:phonenumber] [/CALLBACK:callbacknumber]                 [/PHONEBOOK:phonebookfile] [/PREFIXSUFFIX]         rasdial [entryname] /DISCONNECT Typing in a commandline makes me feel like a real computer user....

Declutter your desk

Declutter your desk. All of my stuff is rack mounted, so my desk is pretty clutter free already, but I'd like to hide some of my power boards and so on.

Lotus Connections - What is it?

If you've heard some talk about Lotus Connections, and wonder what they're talking about, then you might want to read this post from Roberto Boccadoro. It will certainly give you a lot more insight into the product than the marketing video, which is pretty uninformative. Actually the marketing video seems pretty similar to all of the Sametime ones ever produced - same buzzwords and concepts, they've just thrown in some dudes saying "I BLOG!". Well good on you. Check it out below. Or, don't. Technorati tags: Domino, IBM, Lotus, Notes

A quick Notes/Domino roundup

A quick mention of a few things in the world of Notes/Domino. I quickly read this IBM press release, and really don't know what it's talking about. I mean, it's talking about client options and Linux, but is it announcing something that has been released, or talking about a future release? Is this R7, or R8, or what? Regardless of whatever good work IBM might be doing in places, their press releases are still a complete corporate wankfest. "IBM (NYSE: IBM) today unveiled a new Open Client Solution for customers of any size or industry so they can help their employees...

Skype 3!

So Skype 3 is out, and has been for a while. I'm sure it's filled with new features and bug fixes and so on and so forth, but the thing I'm most pleased with is that they've finally added the ability to change it's appearance. It was always so boring to look at, where as now I'm rocking out the camo wallpaper - yeah!

Shredder + New Product + YouTube = apparent humor

It seems that this trend of buying something new and smashing / shredding / dropping it off huge heights / whatever fad isn't going away. There was something about the 'SmashMyWii.com' video which made me a little sad inside - my mind wandered out to the poor swear shop workers toiling away to create consumer electronics for a western society which then goes out and smashes them to pieces. Anyhow, this is a video of some guy (who looks like he owns a mac) putting a vista cd through a shredder, which other people seem to find amusing. My bet...

Why Windows is less secure than Linux?

Because some dude draws a pretty picture that says so. It's funny how you can put up 2 blurry and unreadable graphs and claim that they're telling some sort of a story. Granted the post is over 10 months old, but don't tell Slashdot that! Technorati tags: Linux

Sky channels available through Vodafone live

Vodafone 3g Mobile TV is the first thing I've seen on Vodafone Live that I might actually use. Being able to watch the news or some sports during a commute has great potential, and imagine being at a live sports event being able to catch commentary and replays on your mobile - pretty awesome stuff. Guess it's time to slink into a Vodafone store and see if they can upgrade my Parallel imported phone's firmware to support Live.. that's going to be fun. The Wow Starts Now

It's an unfortunate choice of campaign wording given that the new World of Warcraft expansion was released only a couple of weeks ago. I think it's fair to say there are a lot more people who'd be interesting in WoW than in being Wowed by Vista. Including the pictured executives - they seem to be thinking "Wow, I'm bored" or "Wow, no one turned out for this thing", or maybe even "Wow the information about our crippling DRM features got out fast". I'm sure you can all think of many more captions.. wow me, go on, I dare you. Technorati tags:...

Vanguard: Saga of Hardware

Gamespy: Saga of Heroes / Out of the Box has a bit of a quick write up on Vanguard. The general verdict seems to be to wait a while before checking it out. In typical SOE fashion the game has been rushed out the door early, and has significant performance issues. The problem with such a powerful graphics engine rendering a massive game world in real time is the hit you’ll take on performance. And no matter how great your system, you will have to turn off some of these wonderful graphics options in order to get the game running at...

Windows Vista Upgrade Flowchart

There's been a lot of watercooler discussion around the office regarding Windows Vista. People seem to think that because you work in IT that you should leap at the chance of rendering your computer completely unusable for long periods of time all in the name of bleeding edge by upgrading, NOW! Either that, or they want your opinion on whether they should upgrade to Vista (more so if they have the word 'manager' in their title). To help explain your desicion to these people, BBSpot has come up with a handy flowchart to help make that decision - both for...
